Out of the Box Children's Theatre is the first program for children in Spring Hill, TN dedicated to the art of acting, stage craft and musical theatre. We offer classes for students from ages 5-18. We feel that learning the art of theatre can help youth in all areas of life. We believe firmly in building confidence while strongly encouraging students to think and work "outside the box". We are an educational theater model which focuses on giving children experience with an actual production. It differs from a community model because the classes meet each week during the school year ending with a full production on the stage.

Meet the Directors
Amy EgnewAmy is a 24 year veteran homeschool parent. She co-founded Out of the Box Theater with her sister, Jennifer Lamoreaux. Amy has participated in collegiate level choral groups, attended teacher musical theater training seminars and trained in a semi-professional company as a costume mistress. She got her start at OOTB as the musical theater director and lead costumer. In 2018 she took on the role as owner of the theater. She has a master’s in Speech Language Pathology. While working as a Speech Therapist, she specialized in learning disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and fluency disorders. She was a lead teacher for a PreK program for children with language disorders at Vanderbilt University’s Bill Wilkerson Center. Her passion for the arts combined with the the knowledge of how children learn and develop has led her to providing a unique theater educational model in the Spring Hill community.
Shelby EgnewShelby Egnew has loved dance & theater since she was very young. She has been trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary/lyrical and hip-hop from a young age. She studied dance under Suzanne Clifford, Bruce & Angelika Stegmann and studied Dance Pedagogy at Brigham Young Univeristy-Idaho. She began participating in productions with Out of the Box Children's Theatre in 2011 and played several roles in the ensemble as well as the lead in The Little Mermaid her senior year. These experiences helped her develop a deep love of the arts and of telling a story through song and dance. She graduated from BYU - I with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education in December of 2020 and continues to bring movement into the early childhood classroom now. Shelby has a philosophy that children who participate in the arts can develop essential social-emotional skills, self-discipline and the freedom of creative expression that will help them in everyday life. Helping children experience the magic of live theatre through song & dance is her passion.

Lori JoffsLori has been involved in theatre all her life! She attended Ball State University and earned degrees in Musical Theatre Performance and Speech and Theatre Education. She spent several years performing professionally around the Midwest before starting her family. She taught speech and theatre in the public schools from 2014 - 2022 Now she works in the box office at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
